Our reclaimed wood benches are constructed from premium reclaimed, scaffolding boards which are approximately 38mm thick. The wood tops are two (440mm) scaff boards wide and are finished to a bench height of approximately 450 mm. All our furniture is hand made in our Swansea workshop so if you require a specific length, select the larger option and write the specific length in the product notes box.
For example if you require a 1920mm bench select the option 2100mm and add the requirement of 1920mm in the product notes. We do not charge extra for this bespoke cutting service but please be aware how it affects our returns policy on bespoke items.
if purchasing a reclaimed scaffolding board bench or two to compliment one of our rustic scaff tables its advised to consider the bench length. You can either select a size to match your table and maximise seating space or select a size 1ft smaller which will allow you to slide the benches under the table when not in use.
We love to use reclaimed wood, giving it a new lease of life. Once sanded and oiled the true beauty and character of the wood shines through. The metal bench bases are welded and fabricated in our Swansea workshop. We only use quality steel, much thicker than foreign imports. The steel is wire brushed and then coated with a durable clear lacquer to prevent rusting. Plastic bungs are used to plug the legs of the benches. Felt pads can also be stuck to these protect floors further and level uneven surface.
Unlike foreign imports all our furniture is completely handmade in South Wales, UK using locally sourced materials. We strongly believe in supporting local and use local suppliers wherever possible.
Considerations
Considerations
The scaffold boards we use are reclaimed and have been locally sourced from scaffolding companies. Each board is unique and will have its own signs of wear depending on its time on the scaffold and how it’s been used. This is all part of the rustic character which can’t be duplicated when using new scaffold boards. This does mean that the colour and overall finish will vary from scaff board to scaff board and may differ from that shown in the photos. The scaffolding boards can have manufacture branding on the sides, cracks/splits/shakes, dents/dings, burns, grinder cuts, paint from scaffolding company identification, metal /copper nails. All these characteristics are what set reclaimed scaffolding boards apart from new scaffolding boards and give the rustic industrial look. Our reclaimed scaffolding boards may have a small amount of twist, cupping or bowing and may move a little whilst they acclimatise to their new environment.
When staining reclaimed scaffold boards, it’s important to be aware that every scaff board may stain slightly lighter or darker and the colour may vary depending on your screen contrast and brightness. However, we have done our best to display our stains in the photographs.
Our scaffold boards are sealed with commercial grade furniture oil. Do not use strong multi-surface spray cleaners on the tabletop as this may damage the finish. Wipe up any spills immediately and clean with warm water. It is advisable to oil the scaff boards every few months to maintain the protection.
Delivery
Delivery
The benches are delivered as two scaff boards with the metal bench legs separate, making it easier to access buildings and adjust board spacing over time. The metal bench legs will require screwing to the scaffolding boards, this will be made easier with an electric drill/screwdriver but is still possible by hand. The reclaimed scaffold bench is supplied with all the fixings required and is best assembled upside down on the ground. The metal bench legs are placed at each end to a location of your choice and fixed with the supplied screws. The rustic bench can then be turned over and moved to its new location. For longer benches it is easier if two people can perform this manoeuvre. Like with all our furniture delivery is FREE!
